I’m lying in bed at the Africa Centre Hotel in Johannesburg South Africa. It is 2:00 am at the moment. The rain is really coming down now; it is accompanied by loud bursts of thunder and a bit of lighting.

Have to be up in two hours to begin getting ready for our flight to Lusaka. We will depart at 7:00 am. This means we must be at the airport no later than 5:00 am.

When the graduates of the J.O. Chifundo School in Kalingalinga, Zambia, received their diplomas a few months ago, they were wearing something distinctive, besides proud smiles: the red and blue tassels of the Grapevine High School Mustangs.

“It was just so wonderful to see that tassel,” said Sandy Shepherd of Colleyville, referring to the graduation photo of a woman voted “Best Student.” “It makes everything worth doing.”

In July 2008, Globe Outreach (Globe throughout the remainder of the article) participated in a mission project to Zambia.  Three men, including Deetz Shepherd, David Fedele, and David Nabors, along with a team connected with Strategic Partnership Missions headed to Zambia to engage in evangelism and church strengthening.  This project was the initial effort of what is to be a long-term ministry partnership.

During a school presentation made while in Zambia, David Fedele and Deetz Shepherd presented a picture of the late Jack Oswald of Colleyville to the Chifundo School.  This presentaion marks the official name change of the school.  With this change, the school’s name will now be the J.O. Chifundo School.  Jack Oswald was a man who truly loved Zambia and the children of Kalingalinga.  After his death, his family chose to memorialize him by encouraging friends and family to providing funds to the school for a future building project.
